Mai is of an average height, with a fairly toned body from the amount of swimming she does; out of choice and because of training. She has wavy, blonde-golden hair that reaches just past her shoulders and she has it constantly cut in the same style; a full fringe that just gets in her eyes and feathered around her face. She prefers this style because it hides the scar she has across her left temple from an accident during training when she was younger.

Her fringe is to hide her blue-green eyes as they are the one thing that gives away how she feels and she feels it's a way of hiding when she gets embarrassed. Mai has slight scaring across her body from various accidents in training, but she's not afraid to show them as most of them are faded and she believes it shows strength. Also, from the amount of training she does she has developed problems with her joints, and they tend to crack a lot which sometimes causes her pain; not that she likes to show it.

She is one of these people that is known for wearing something unique to them. This happens to be an intricate leather band that she wears on her right wrist. Nobody knows that it used to be her mothers before she passed away because she likes to keep a lot of things secret.

Mai is a sensitive person when she wants to be, but she has grown into the sort of person that doesn't let many people in. This is because of her mothers death, and the loss of her sibling, a few years back. It tore her apart. She's an only child and now her father wants her to be the best career around. She tries to please him, but sometimes it isn't enough.

She likes to laugh, a lot. That's one of the things she doesn't get to do a lot of, so when she can, she takes the opportunity and seizes it. Mai is a great friend and loves attention, when it's appropriate. She takes great care in the way she looks, but at times she acts as though she knows she looks good. Even then she doesn't rub it in people's faces.

Due to her being a career she has a tough side to her and, in turn, can be fierce and argumentative when she wants to be. She doesn't mean it, but it's just a mind set. She hates getting into arguments, but sometimes she has quite a short temper which gets her into trouble with not only her dad, but her friends too. However, she tries her best to always make amends.

When Mai was 13 her mother died whilst carrying her sibling. They never knew if she was going to have a baby brother or sister, and she still has never found out. It wasn't a tragic death, but it was enough to tip Mai over the edge for a little while. She knew there would have been a big age gap between her and her little brother or sister, but she hadn't minded. She just wanted someone else in her family. It tore her apart, loosing not only an unknown sibling but also her mum. Her dad wasn't in a better state of mind either.

Eventually she moved on and so did her dad. Although she never forgot. She still has days where she cries and mourns, but those have got less and less as she has got older. The only thing she has as a reminder of her is her band and a few odd photos. Not a lot, but to her it's enough.

Her friends are incredibly supportive and helped her through the rough time, and still help her now. Mai is incredibly grateful to them all. She has a great bond with them all and they manage to take away the sadness and replace it with laughs as they go out and enjoy their youth; while it lasts.

Mai hasn't yet found love, but she is apprehensive about the whole thing because she knows what it did to her dad when he lost the one woman he loved. She would like to find someone that loves her for her, but doesn't quite know who would put up with her. For the mean time she is happy being who she is and taking each day as it comes; because her strong-willed character keeps her pushing on.
